Banana Boat by Robert Lee Davis

Features

ARTIST NOTES: This work was inspired from events in Egypt, but references the global democratic movement effects on local peoples’ trade and commerce. Having lived several years in Egypt, I was familiar with the politics of the “have’s and have not’s” and the growing gap between the two. The farmers, while supplying the food for both sides, were the last on the totem pole for rights. The title is from a song I used to hum when observing the banana sellers during Ramadan.
