ARTIST BIO

Colour has its own voice and mood, and is used with emotion and playful variation within the creative process of light and joy. I am intrigued by the whole process of painting a piece of art, starting with my thoughts and visions, images taken, the size and creative space I work, what the weathers doing that day. Some works belong on canvas, or cotton rag paper, sometimes linen, then theres the question of framing, with or without glass, no frame? Each work breathes its own life. Every part of the process is significant to the finished piece.

Catherine is well known on the Mornington Peninsula selling works privately but you will also always find one of her paintings on display at the various local art shows and exhibitions held around the Peninsula and Melbourne. Her works happily live interstate and as far as Singapore and the U.K.

Her usual style is abstract and focusing on background texture and her subject animals, large silhouette birds or slightly quirky portraits of family pets, some examples can be seen on the Gallery247 website More recently she has turned her talents to painting the sky. Catherine grew up in Glen Iris, and then spent a decade living and travelling abroad in Paris, Greece and the U.K., she now lives on the Mornington Peninsula where she draws her inspirations from the ever changing and beautiful skies over the water.

Catherine comes from a family of creative people, musicians, singers, sculptresses, healers and painters which all played their part in her becoming a passionate painter. Her grandfather was a famous lyrical singer at the Palais Theatre, her great grandmother was part of the Womens Painters Association of Victoria and her dear Nan, a very clever oil still life painter, whom she still paints with today. Her dog Disco is always by her side and is one her greatest joys. Catherine counts herself lucky as she has always wanted to paint and is fulfilling her dream. Painting brings her piece, balance and joy and offers people the same.

Her work is within a semi-abstract framework, where identity, the present moment and memory come together to express herself.

Someone who creates something, a person who has taken time present something, an idea, a form, a viaual that can have you stand and stare at it from meters away and then draw you in close - that does something to me. It moves me in a way that takes me away from lifes hustle and bustle and whether your into art or not, it's good for the soul.
